Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at Burnley secured Cardiff’s place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup for the first time since 2012, when they lost in the final on penalties to Liverpool. The impressive performance at Turf Moor followed wins over Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town earlier in the competition, while the Bluebirds have also started the season strongly in League One.They are fourth in the table having lost only one match so far and visit Wigan Athletic on Saturday.Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy acknowledges that next month’s cup tie at Wrexham will generate a lot of attention, not least because of their opponents’ high-profile rise from National League to Championship under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.But with six League One fixtures before Cardiff visit the Stok Cae Ras, Barry-Murphy is more concerned about his side’s league endeavours.”I imagine that’s great news for everybody involved, even though at the moment it seems a lifetime away for us with bigger priorities on the horizon on Saturday,” he said.”I know a lot of players in the Wrexham squad who I know really well and consider friends. I worked with Conor Coady last year at Leicester, Ollie Rathbone, Andy Cannon [at Rochdale].”That will be a great day and I’m sure it’ll be a great game when it comes around but, from my point of view, the focus will be on Saturday before we start thinking about anything like that cup tie.”
