Beth Alaw WIlliamsBBC WalesPA MediaRuth Jones and James Corden are working on their first project together since the Gavin and Stacey finale on Christmas Day 2024Gavin and Stacey co-creators Ruth Jones and James Corden have revealed they are working together on a new TV comedy.The pair, who played Smithy and Nessa in the hit show, spilled the beans on their latest project on the final evening of their book tour for When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between in Cardiff.As well as writing The Choir, they will play estranged siblings in the Apple TV show.The idea came from their family connection to choirs, with Corden’s mum and Jones’ sister both members of one.Jones said: “We both feel that choirs, amateur choirs especially, bring people together in a way that maybe nothing else does. “There was just this idea to bring this group of characters together from different backgrounds, all sorts of different things going on in their lives.”Corden added they wanted “to try and make a show about community and the importance of community”. “It’s just about a group of people that come together every week and enjoy and sing, and it’s really about the life that’s within that.”Alongside their new collaboration, Jones appears in new Netflix series Run Away, while Corden has just finished a stint on Broadway.As well as looking to the future, An Evening with James Corden and Ruth Jones looked back at the success of Gavin and Stacey since it first aired in 2007, with behind-the-scenes insight from Jones and Corden.The closing night of the book tour also featured a special performance from Oscar Hartland, known for playing Neil the baby, who sung Blackbird by The Beatles from the show’s final episode.Their memoir was published on 9 October – almost a year on from the show’s record-breaking finale on Christmas Day 2024.A release date for The Choir is yet to be announced.
