Firefighters arrived at the building at Pacific Quay shortly after 06:30Fire crews have tackled an early morning blaze at BBC Scotland’s headquarters in Glasgow.BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast was taken off air, switching to pre-recorded music and breakfast television news bulletins from Scotland were suspended.The Pacific Quay building, next to the River Clyde, was evacuated for two hours after a fire alarm sounded at about 06:30. It is understood the fire broke out in a plant room at roof level on the fifth floor. All staff left the building safely. Firefighters arrived within minutes of the alarms sounding with at least seven fire engines at the scene.Flames could be seen through windows on the top floor of the buildingIt is understood the fire was discovered by a member of security staff who raised the alarm.An orange glow of flames could be seen through windows next to the illuminated BBC Scotland sign on the south side of the building. BBC Radio Scotland was back on air at about 08:30 when staff returned to the building.A BBC Scotland spokesperson said: “We’re grateful to the emergency services for their rapid deployment on site.”
